Danehill was established in 1986, when my mother, Dr. Ranjana Nargolkar, bought a beautiful brindle female puppy, whom she named Sheba, (officially Ch. Danedom's Star Appeal) from Mr. Mukund Ogale of Danedom kennels, a renowned Great Dane kennel at the time. She was a daughter of Ch. Clausentum Jasper, bred by the famous Dane breeder and judge, Ms. Jean Lanning of England and a granddaughter of Dundane's Avenger, a dog that Mr. Ogale had bought from the well known Dundane kennels of Ms. Anita Dunne. We had wanted a companion dog, but what we came home with was not only a loving companion, but a show dog extraordinaire! Sheba turned out to be such a beautiful dane that it was but natural that we took her to a dog show and she went on to finish her Championship in three straight shows, winning board placements along the way. Thus began our long and beautiful association with this Apollo of Dogdom and we thank Mr. and Mrs. Mukund Ogale for starting us off on this wonderful journey that has sparked such a passion in me.
Having grown up with Danes, I cannot imagine my life without them. In 1988, we bred our first homebred champion Ch. Danehill's Velvet (Maya) and I had the most pleasurable experience of showing her to her Championship, as a schoolgirl.
I have always been very fond of Gsds and Labradors too and we've always had them in the family. Our Labrador , Sandy (Danehill's Cassandra) and our GSD Roxy (Ind. Siegerin Ch. Danehill's Vanessa) were very special members of our family and we will always have very fond memories of them. I have the good fortune of breeding German Shepherds and Labradors in partnership with my friend Mahesh Amale and breeding a few GSD champions. Do visit our Labs and GSDs page to see our lovely dogs.
Over the years, we've had the pleasure of being owned by many of these magnificent dogs, who have become an intrinsic part of our family. Our dogs are always owner handled. Breeding them, rearing them, showing them and just being around them has enriched our lives in the most beautiful way.
Danehill today, would not be what it is without the contribution of some very special people. Fran Lass of Lagarada Danes, my mentor and very dear friend, who's always been there for me with advice and encouragement and to whom I owe whatever success I've had the good fortune of experiencing. Thanks for letting us have Honey - Lagarada's HoneyGold v Danehill. She is the sweetest !
Joy and Jerry Lobato, of Lobato Great Danes, thank you for our precious boy Indy and for being such great friends and for all the fun times together. Indy has truly taken the breed a step forward in India and we look forward to many more Indy champions in the future.
To, Denise Bennett of the famous Amasa Kennels of Australia , I do not have words to express my gratitude for that once in a lifetime Dane, Betty - Amasa Regent Dvine Rite. Brood bitch extraordinaire and above all the most gentle and loving companion. She is the solid foundation on which Danehill is built.Betty already has 14 champions till date, with several more on their way to attaining their championship. I am truly proud to say that Betty, in all probability, would end up being the top most producing bitch, all breeds, in the history of the dog game in India and all this in only four litters !
Thank you, Shelagh and Barry Price of Labradors de la Vigne Nieuil - France, for the lovely labs.
We have been fortunate enough to make great friends over the years due to our association with dogs. Thank you to each and every one of you for the kindness and the special times shared. Do visit our site often and be a part of our journey with our dogs.
And to all our dogs, past and present, thank you for the joy you give us and for your unconditional love.
Over the years, Danehill has laid emphasis on its homebreds and has taken pride in showing them with great success. We feel there is no greater joy for a breeder than to handle a dog bred by him/her to a Best in Show and we've had the pleasure of experiencing that on two occasions so far. We hope to keep striving to breed and show quality danes, without compromise, in the years to come.
